Lifting NZ’s Productivity and Competitiveness
Entrepreneurs Can Lead Us Out of the Crisis
“Only entrepreneurs have the flexibility, the freedom and the risk-everything ambition to find the
path back to prosperity in a rapidly changing, technology-driven global economy.”
Tom Hayes and Michael Malone, The Wall Street Journal
Background to Summit
Following on from the Prime Minister’s Employment Summit, Chris Simmons has suggested an Entrepreneurial Summit, to seek ideas to that both exploit the opportunities of this recession and provide a prosperous future for New Zealand’s future entrepreneurs. The idea has been picked up by Tony Falkenstein and others - it is now a reality.
Concept
100 Entrepreneurs are invited (they must have started their own business). No politicians, academics or hangers-on. The NZES has a lofty vision, of getting New Zealand out of the bottom quartile of the OECD and seeking to take the country’s GDP from 0.01% to 0.02% of the global total. Entrepreneurs are the right people to get the country there.
“As entrepreneurs, business leaders and advisors, it’s our job to deliver tangible ideas to stimulate growth and productivity. This event is about achieving economic growth, it’s about a can-do attitude.” says Tenby Powell.
